Alert Detection

The EMWIN ftp site publishes new weather statements every two minutes, every five minutes, and every fifteen minutes. FAS2 pulls the two-minute feed and searches it for alerts and warnings affecting the Houston area. When one is detected, it is saved to the database along with its expiration time. Each page on the website is configured to look for current alerts in the database. If one is found, the link, labeled with the statement description and expiration time, is displayed in a box at the top of the page roughly where the box above appears.
Messages posted by the FAS2 support team can also appear in the alert box.
